As an activity to fulfill the School Award Scheme launched by the Council for Sustainable Development, our school has designed a Cultural Heritage Trail in the Shau Kei Wan District. On 22nd May 2010, we co-organized with the District Councillor Mr. Wong Kin Hing, a trip to the Heritage Trail for local residents of Siu Sai Wan.
There were 60 participants, including 30 local residents. The itinerary covered Law Uk Folk Museum, Museum of Coastal Defence, Tam Kung Temple, Tin Hau Temple, Cheng Huang Temple, Main Street East, Lei Yue Mun Park and Holiday Village (the former Lyemun Barracks) and Sai Wan Battery. Our student guides were fully equipped with mobile learning devices to show background information of the sites.
The response of the participants and the post-tour questionnaires showed the trip was a great success. The heritage trail will surely help advocate the importance of cultural conservation and attract tourists to the history and culture of the Eastern District.
