“Searching the Story of Nature”

(24-Jan-09)

10 representatives from our school participated in the “Searching the Story of Nature” workshop in the Tai Po Nature Reserve on 24 January 2009. Dr. Au from the center explained to students the concept of sustainable development and the Earth Charter. Mr. Wong Chi Chun, tutor from Ho Koon Nature Education cum Astronomical Centre, had briefing on biodiversity and the relationship between the man and the environment in the lecture.
In addition to lecture, students joined the field trip study in small groups to investigate the vegetation distribution and their adaptive features on natural and artificial slopes. This further helped students understand the human impact on natural environment.

(Apr-09)

These are the two posters concerning the investigation of the vegetation on the slopes in Tai Po Nature Reserve.

Junior-form Science enrichment course – Mobile learning workshop in the CFSS Environmental Trail

(14-May-09)

To bridge with the New Senior Secondary curriculum and cultivate students with sustainable development mindset, the Department of Science is collaborating with the Department of Information Technology to organize the mobile learning workshop on 14th May 2009. Students could make use of the mobiles to study the morphological characters of different plant species in our school environmental trail. Students can also present their ideas efficiently and interactively using wireless online system in the classroom.

Trip to Rocky Shore in Cape d’Aguilar Marine Reserve

(30-May-09)

Being the first marine reserve in Hong Kong, Cape d’Aguilar is a precious rocky shore with high ecological value. On 30th May 2009, 40 teachers and students participated in the trip to the rocky shore in Cape d’Aguilar to study peculiar geomorphological features namely sea arch, sea cave and blow hole. With guidance of Dr. Au, participants realized the severe human impact on the rocky shore habitats and the importance of environmental protection and sustainable development. We had the invaluable chance of visiting the Swire Institute of Marine Science of University of Hong Kong, understanding how technicians and researches study the surrounding habitat by advanced laboratory installation to pave the path for protecting the environment there.
