From Soybean Fields to Scientific Discovery: CFSS Students Showcase Their Learning Journey in Heilongjiang
Eight CFSS students proudly shared the knowledge, insights and experiences gained from their summer study trip to Heilongjiang at the Soyvestors Presentation Ceremony held on 19 September 2026.
Organised by Soyvestors and sponsored by the Lee Hysan Foundation, the programme provided students with a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of the science behind soybeans. Founded by Professor Lam Hon-Ming of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Soyvestors (采菽社) is a social enterprise that builds upon soybean research to integrate science, technology and humanistic values through immersive interdisciplinary STEAM education, nurturing future citizens and changemakers.
During the summer, eight students and two teachers participated in a study trip to Heilongjiang. Throughout the journey, they attended seminars at local universities and explored soybean-related research and development. Students also visited agricultural fields and greenhouses in Northern China, where they observed advanced agricultural technologies and gained first-hand insights into modern farming practices.
At the presentation ceremony, CFSS students demonstrated their learning achievements through a poster presentation, sharing with members of the public what they had learned and observed during the trip. They also delivered prepared speeches and introduced video clips that they had filmed and produced to document their experiences. Their confident presentations reflected the effort they had invested in preparing for the event and their enthusiasm for sharing their memorable journey with academics and invited guests from Hong Kong.
The ceremony also provided a valuable platform for exchange, allowing students to learn from the experiences and perspectives of participants from other schools. Through meaningful discussions and interactions, students broadened their understanding and deepened their appreciation of soybean science and its applications.
Building upon the knowledge and inspiration gained from this enriching experience, CFSS students are looking forward to embarking on Soyvestors Modules C and D in the coming year, where they will further explore the fascinating world of soybeans.
