Singing "Below the Lion Rock" in the Spirit of Aerospace: A Chronicle of CFSS's Participation in the Eastern District Singing Competition

The Resonance Between the Aerospace Dream and the Hong Kong Spirit

Aerospace technology as the theme of this year's talent performance not only kept pace with the vigorous development of the nation's space industry but also echoed the enduring spirit of resilience that defines the people of Hong Kong. As Hong Kong's first astronaut, Dr. Lai Ka-ying's journey of perseverance is the finest embodiment of the "Below the Lion Rock" spirit, starting from humble beginnings and, through determination and hard work, reaching step by step toward the vast starry sky. When the melody of "Below the Lion Rock" resounded through the venue, accompanied by the footage of Dr. Lai's reports, the audience witnessed not only the growth trajectory of an astronaut but also the profound connection between Hong Kong as a city and the nation's aerospace dream. Through song, our teachers and students served as a bridge, conveying this resonance — one that transcends both geography and discipline — to everyone present, weaving the aerospace spirit and Hong Kong sentiment into a breathtaking tapestry.

Teachers and Students Leading the Singing — Passing the Torch

The talent performance featured Form 3 student Ho Yat-long and Principal Ho Tik-shun leading the singing together, a gesture rich in symbolic meaning. The Principal's participation embodied the role of educators in guiding and accompanying students, while Ho's engagement represented the younger generation's embrace and pursuit of the aerospace dream. One elder and one youth, one teacher and one student, two voices converging on stage precisely echoed the spirit of "passing the torch" inherent in aerospace endeavours: pioneers paving the way, and successors carrying the mission forward. During rehearsals, Principal Ho repeatedly emphasised that singing and aerospace may seem worlds apart, yet both demand focus, perseverance, and teamwork. Ho also expressed that singing to bless Dr. Lai was an immense honour, and that he was deeply inspired by her story, resolving to uphold the same indomitable spirit in his studies. This scene of teachers and students sharing the stage is a vivid microcosm of campus education resonating in harmony with national development.

The Meaning Behind the First Runner-Up Honour

The school's representative for the Yee Wan Sub-district received the first runner-up prize in the talent performance segment, an honour whose significance far exceeds the award itself. It affirms not only the creativity, rehearsal efforts, and teamwork of our teachers and students but also encourages the school's active participation in community affairs and its promotion of patriotic education and aerospace literacy. From compiling the Government Information Services reports and selecting the background music to organising the lead vocals and rehearsals, every step embodied the dedication and wisdom of the Campus TV Station and the teacher-student team. While the first runner-up result is certainly gratifying, what matters more is the growth and gain of every participant throughout the process: they learned how to express pride in the nation's achievements through artistic means, how to showcase the school's elegance on a community stage, and how to internalise the aerospace spirit as a driving force for their own journey forward.

From the Stage to the Stars: Looking Ahead

Although the competition has drawn to a successful close, the seeds of the aerospace spirit have already taken root and begun to sprout on campus. Dr. Lai Ka-ying's story tells us that dreams know no boundaries, and Hong Kong's youth can likewise contribute to the nation's aerospace endeavours. Our school will take this opportunity to further promote the organic integration of aerospace literacy education and patriotic education, encouraging students to pay attention to national technological development and to aspire to grand ideals. Today we pay tribute to aerospace heroes through song on stage; tomorrow, may more CFSS students shine in the fields of science, engineering, and technology, truly fulfilling the aspiration of "journeying from Below the Lion Rock to the sea of stars." With this performance, we once again extend our highest respect to Dr. Lai Ka-ying and wish the nation's aerospace industry even greater glory.
